Silverman opened her speech on Monday (July 25, 2016) with a message to staunch supporters of Bernie Sanders, the candidate for whom she has long advocated, that received a strong audience reaction.
Hillary is our Democratic nominee, and I will proudly vote for her. It’s so inspiring.
“A few years ago she was secretary, and now she’s going to be president”.
Silverman said in an interview on CNN that the moment was not planned. She’s like the only person who’s over qualified for the job as president.
Sanders and his team have been emailing and texting supporters to try to get them to stop the heckling as a “personal courtesy” to him.
Silverman supported Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) throughout the Democratic primary race but is now calling for Sanders supporters to support Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Franken and Silverman then gave a lengthy set-up to introduce singer Paul Simon and the crowd was united again.
