Panthers Report To Training Camp

SPARTANBURG, S.C. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kawann Short said he wont hold out while awaiting a new contract from the Carolina Panthers. Short was MIA during a portion of voluntary practices that he would normally have attended. There’s no anything. We’re here to just play football and prepare ourselves and prepare the team. i think in the three weeks, I think we get a lot accomplished.

Short indicates he hopes a deal can get done as he “loves the Carolina Panthers”.

But if things don’t get done by the end of the preseason, it’s unlikely a deal will be reached until at least the next offseason.

“Its going to take time, but Im patient, ” Short said.

Short said hell play this season under his current deal if he doesnt receive a contract extension. “Contracts will get done when they are supposed to”.

Short, who tied Cincinnati’s Geno Atkins for the most sacks (11) by a defensive tackle last season, is scheduled to make just over $1 million this season.

The Spartanburg Visitor’s Bureau says thanks to the great season past year, close to 100,000 people are expected to attend training camp. General manager Dave Gettleman has said he does not negotiate during the season. Now it’s time to start their redemption tour, which begins with Panthers training camp.

“That’s a whole different guy”.

Now the story this year at training camp also involves Josh Norman, but in a different way as he won’t be there. I can’t really put myself in his shoes and what he went through.

That position is one that would likely make him the second-highest-paid player on the team behind only quarterback Cam Newton.

This means big money for the city, and it gets the players ready for the new season.

Asked if he considered himself along the same caliber as Cox and Wilkerson, Short said, “I’m working to that level”.
