Sabathia’s gem gives Yankees eighth win in 10 games
The guys feel pretty good about themselves. Bregman, the top prospect in baseball according to Keith Law of ESPN, slashed.306/.406/.580 with 20 home runs and 61 RBIs in 80 games across two levels in the minors. The Yankees offense had a decent night themselves, as the Yankees came away with a 6-3 win.

Sabathia allowed just two runs in 6 2/3 innings to get back on track after a tough stretch and help the New York Yankees to a 6-3 win over the Houston Astros. He surrendered a solo home run to Marwin Gonzalez in the first inning and a solo home run to Evan Gattis in the seventh inning.
At least that could be the case after Luis Valbuena left in the second inning Tuesday after suffering a right hamstring strain while running to first base.
Starlin Castro added an RBI single in the third, pushing the lead to 3-1.
Romine’s double to deep centre field scored Chase Headley, who singled to start the eighth. Carlos Beltran led off the inning with a single. McCann was hit by a pitch before Teixeira singled and Castro was given an intentional one-out walk to load the bases for Headley, whose sacrifice fly drove in McCann. “He escaped it a little bit early, but then obviously, they opened it up in the fifth”. Teixeira followed that with a single.
The Yankees boosted the lead to 6-1 with three runs in the fifth, two of them scoring on Aaron Hicks’ two-out triple. That put the Yankees up 6-1.
The All-Star got out of the jam by freezing Jason Castro with a breaking ball for a called third strike, while Miller closed the game with a scoreless ninth.
Sabathia shook off the first-inning homer, retiring eight of the next 10 Astros without allowing a hit.
Sabathia was dominant. The 36-year-old broke a string of six straight starts where he gave up four runs. However, it was only a solo homer, and made it 6-2. The fired-up lefty pumped his fist when he got Carlos Gomez to ground into a game-ending double play with two on. That would be the end of Sabathia’s day.
TIGERS 4, RED SOX 2: Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, Justin Verlander pitched six solid innings and Detroit spoiled Drew Pomeranz’s second start with Boston.
Going forward this season, Bregman will find himself playing many roles with the Astros as there have been talks of starting him at third base, first base, left field and even shortstop.
Fister, whose start against the White Sox on July 2 also lasted 4 2/3 innings, departed having allowed six runs on nine hits and three walks.
Andrew Miller would finish things off fairly easily in the ninth.

Pitching has fueled the current hot streak of the New York Yankees, who will send ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound on Wednesday for the finale of a three-game series against the host Houston Astros.
