Guardiola bans overweight Manchester City players from training

Speaking ahead of the International Champions Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, he told a news conference: “They were not overweight but I want my players fit”. “The goalkeeper needs to be better with their feet, the centre-backs are improving and the full-backs are important”. Now I’m excited about playing at City and I will try to do great things here.

“I have been here a couple of days, but I can see we have a good team and we can do anything”, the winger added. “I would talk more about the quality and he likes players to be composed on the ball”.

A number of players who were involved in worldwide tournaments this summer only rejoined the squad for City’s tour of China, but Clichy says they are in for a shock when they get back to England. “He just wants us to trust him, he wants to trust us and I think it’s the right way to start a relationship”, the 31-year-old said. “I think the supporters are very honest – there it’s a bit hard because Galatasaray expect to win everything and this season was not the best one”.

“Believe me, you play on some fields in a really bad condition in your career as a player and a coach”.

Guardiola said he had been enjoying putting the City squad through its paces and assessing the quality at his disposal.

Manuel Agudo Durán, known as Nolito, has confessed that he rejected a potential move to LaLiga champions Barcelona in favour of a switch to Premier League challengers Manchester City. “It’s a reason for me to come here but not the only one”, said Nolito, according to the Guardian.

“But I think a lot of the midfield players we have here can play at the back, and when that happens the build-up play is much, much better”.

“They are looking for good hotels and inviting players, but if we can’t play on the pitch then it doesn’t matter”.

City’s pre-season preparations took a hit on Monday when their derby against Manchester United was called off because of the poor pitch at Beijing’s “Bird’s Nest” Olympic Stadium, following heavy rain. “We’re trying to look for a team from the Championship or League One”.

Nevertheless the challenge for Guardiola at City is to build a team which is characterised by all four of the aforementioned attributes, so that they are capable of not just winning the Premier League but also becoming giants of the European game.
