Yahoo has revamped its desktop Messenger app for Windows and Mac platforms, adding features such as “liking” posts and support for GIF images. The redesigned platform was initially launched for iOS and Android devices, as well as for the web version of Yahoo Messenger. This will bring up a GIF search engine where users can easily look for any and all GIFs they want to send. The company even baked the messenger with Yahoo Mail to increase the relevance and usage.

The new Yahoo messenger app is looking pretty sleek with a brand new interface and a host of new features for improving the overall experience. This includes un-sending messages, GIF sharing, drag-and-drop photo sharing, etc., in addition to desktop notifications.

We are also introducing the unsend button-one of our most beloved Messenger features now on desktop.

Yahoo’s new Messenger app’s arrival is also very timely, since the company is realizing what it announced in early June that it will be shutting down its old legacy Messenger next month. Pro tip: “play GIF roulette and type /gif + any search term”.

Shoemaker is the senior director of Yahoo’s product management, and according to him, the desktop app is designed for multitasking, so users will not miss messages sent simultaneously by friends, family and colleagues.
