Le Vision chief executive officer Zhang Zhao said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that in collaborating on “Wall”, he wanted to show that Hollywood and China teaming up is the future.

The first trailer for The Great Wall has finally been released, and it’s fair to say that it looks quite a bit different than expected. Explosions, monsters, and Damon’s infamous ponytail ensue.
The story is by Max Brooks, the author behind World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and Brad Pitt starred in the film adaptation. DP Stuart Dryburgh’s (Blackhat) sharp eye is on full display, mixing grand imagery with more intimate strokes.
Damon leads the ensemble cast and will presumably resume his typical man-who-saves-things role (whether himself, on Mars, or entire cities, a la the Bourne series) as he defends ancient China from monsters in the science-fantasy film. “Other than the monster, all aspects of this film are backed by either scientific or historical research”.

Due out in February of 2017, The Great Wall is directed by House of Flying Daggers and Hero’s Zhang Yimou, and boasts an impressive mix of Chinese and Western filmmaking-Yimou joined the project, being developed by Universal, to try and bring an authentic Chinese approach to the movie and its setting. The Great Wall also stars Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe and Andy Lau. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China.
