The tweet posted during Kaine’s Democratic National Convention speech Wednesday night said Kaine “wears a Honduras flag pin on his jacket but no American flag”. So it’s rather surprising that one state’s GOP didn’t know the difference between a military logo and the flag of Honduras.
North Carolina’s Democratic Party spokesman Dave Miranda says the GOP “mocked” Kaine and then “refused to apologize”.
The Associated Press reported that Ben Amey, a reporter for WNYT-TV in Albany, New York, pointed out the mistake on Twitter.
The tweet was later deleted, but screenshot of the tweet have gone viral online. But, as the North Carolina Republican party learned Wednesday night, it’s best to understand one before taking to the other. “Thanks for letting us correct our mistake”.
No apology was given to Kaine or the party for their misleading and incorrect statement.
Robert Rikard echoed the sentiments of many when he wrote, “what a hateful, misinformed tweet”. We have taken corrective action.

And Sarah Dougherty was concerned that, not only had the GOP not fact-checked its tweet before hitting send, but, “The second worst part is they clearly have no idea what the Honduras flag looks like, nor access to the Google”. Which is why he was wearing a simple pin on his left lapel.
