The Angels claim Raul Mondesi ran inside the line on a bunt single in the seventh inning, which led to a throwing error and two runners scoring.

After Santiago left, the Royals did not get a hit off Angels relievers J.C. Ramirez, Fernando Salas, Cam Bedrosian and Huston Street. Bedrosian struck out the side in the eighth.

Escobar had five hits, Perez had four, and the Angels reached base some 27 times; the Royals reached four times. Duffy allowed three runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out five.

Gordon and Orlando each contributed three hits.

The Angels’ first included Daniel Nava’s sacrifice fly and Carlos Perez’s RBI infield single with two outs.

When the whole play was over, two runs had scored and Mondesi was at third.

“It just stinks”, Kennedy said.

The Angels could have had a bigger lead before the seventh-inning mess. “All I could tell myself to do, is you can’t do anything about it. I just hoped to keep us in the game as long as possible and I wanted to go through six innings and hand the ball off”. On the first pitch, Angels’ southpaw Hector Santiago reared back and unleashed a fastball. Alcides Escobar had beaten the tag to first base, Cheslor Cuthbert used an overturned call on the field to reach first, and Eric Hosmer walked. “We’ll monitor it day to day and see how he’s feeling”, Yost said. He has allowed two or fewer runs in seven starts without getting a win. Orlando had two doubles and a fifth-inning RBI.

Within six minutes of the first pitch Monday night, the Royals’ Ian Kennedy had already loaded the bases. Cuthbert was initially called out, but after a Royals challenge it was overturned after a 66-second delay. Kendrys Morales struck out on a virtually identical pitch. A Cheslor Cuthbert fielding error later, Kennedy was giving way to Aussie sidearmer Peter Moylan with Ji-Man Choi standing on first base.
