But on that first day, they will begin at 6AM with MTV Hour One, a rebroadcast of MTV’s first 60 minutes of videos from back in 1981.
Nostalgia for the 1990s will have a new cable television home beginning August 1 when VH1 Classic becomes MTV Classic. “So much great content from MTV’s past has gone unseen on any platform for years, the timing seemed right to bring the best of it back to life in a new context”.
The first hour of MTV Classic will replicate the first hour of programming in MTV’s history before also airing a special documentary on Total Request Live and iconic episodes of MTV Unplugged featuring Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Oasis and Erykah Badu.
On MTV Classic, every day will be Throwback Thursday.
The primetime block will focus on animated fare including Daria, Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux. But just in case you can’t MTV and chill next Monday, “MTV Hour One” will be streamed via Facebook as a Facebook Live video.
MTV Classic’s Friday programming will be dedicated to music series like MTV Unplugged and Storytellers, as well as live performances.

“From Beavis & Butt-head to Laguna Beach, MTV’s programming vault is a music and pop culture goldmine with universal resonance”, said MTV president Sean Atkins (via The Hollywood Reporter). Weekends will be devoted to binge-friendly marathons of reality staples such as “The Real World”, “Laguna Beach” and “Road Rules”.
