Zika reported on Caribbean island of Saba, CDC issue travel notice
For this reason, the CDC recommends that all pregnant women with sex partners (male or female) who live in or have traveled to an area with Zika virus use condoms during sex or abstain from sex for the remainder of their pregnancy. They combined that data with information on climate, pregnancy, and birth data and other factors to calculate their estimates. The best way to avoid Zika virus infection is to prevent mosquito bites.

A baby with brain damage linked to the Zika virus has been born in Spain, a case thought to be the first of its kind in Europe. A fifth child with microcephaly was born in NY this month, and in Europe, a child was born with Zika-related microcephaly for the first time, according to The Associated Press.
Dr. Antonio Crespo is an infectious disease specialist at Orlando Health.
The Guardian’s report added that the CDC has also urged that even pregnant women who have not shown any symptoms of the Zika virus should be tested for the virus if they could have possibly been exposed to it.
Officials say the woman had been diagnosed with the Zika virus in May, and had made a decision to keep the baby.
“We really do want people who are traveling to those warmer climates to really check before they go”, Deti said.
But the upcoming Summer Olympics in Brazil, which had become a hotbed for the disease, shouldn’t be a concern, experts have repeatedly said.
Officials have not tracked how many cases were transmitted via mosquito and which were transmitted via sex, said Health Department Director of Public Relations Nykole Tyson.
That’s because North Dakota now doesn’t have the type of mosquito that carries the virus.
The latest case was diagnosed earlier this month. Meanwhile, Gov. Rick Scott has asked for assistance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Miami Herald reported. Thousands of such cases have already occurred in Latin America, largely in Brazil.

Keep in mind, it’s already winter in Rio so mosquito activity has subsided.
