Let Laverne Cox, Nick Offerman, Kristen Schaal, and John Oliver Teach You

Summer vacation is nearly over, and as John Oliver pointed out on Sunday’s “Last Week Tonight” on HBO, that means there will soon be stories about parents angry over sex education.

That means sex ed curricula can vary wildly among different states, districts and even schools. The host explores that intricate and awkward subject, revealing a shocking inconsistency related to sexual education in American schools.

The video tells viewers that if people make fun of you for your choice about having sex or not, “those people are assholes” and advises them to have sex with Ryan Gosling if they are given the chance. As Mother Jones has previously reported, the effects can be alarming: In Mississippi, where sex education deems homosexuality a crime and condom demonstrations are banned, the state ranks second in teenage pregnancy, with a third of all babies born to teenage mothers.

Oliver has recruited a few celebrity friends to help create a sex ed video for today’s youth. “I was home schooled”, said Oliver about that idea.

“Human sexuality, unlike calculus, is something you actually need to know about for the rest of your life”, Oliver says. The likes of Laverne Cox, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Kristen Schaal, Jack McBrayer, Aisha Tyler and Kumail Nanjiani provide some comedy but also some vital information to inform the youth of America all about anatomy, abstinence, contraception, STDs and consent.
