But Justice Abang said on Thursday that since two court orders in Lagos and Abuja affirming Sheriff as National Chairman were still subsisting before another faction rushed to Port-Harcourt to get another order of the Court to back the convention that produced Makarfi, it could not stand. That order is still subsisting.
One of the courts had restrained the PDP from holding any further convention until they put their house in order.
Another Federal High court in Lagos also declared the Sheriff faction as illegal which the Port Harcourt division of the Federal High Court upheld.
It was at that convention that the National Working Committee of the party led by former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff was dissolved and a caretaker committee led by former Governor Ahmed Markarfi was constituted.
The Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the party had on July 14 announced August 17 as the date for the party’s national convention when election would be held to fill the positions of national officers of the PDP.
“There is nothing that those that are trying to stop the convention will not try but by the special grace of God, the wishes of the 99.9% members will definitely prevail and convention will hold, no man can stop the Port Harcourt August 17 National Convention of our great party, PDP”.
“Though I have powers to nullify the division of the Port Harcourt that recognised Makarfi leadership; I will not do so because there is no application to that effect before me”.
“I will, however, allow the court of appeal to do justice to that”, Abang said. “Any decision not taken by the Sheriff-led Committee is not binding on the PDP”.
“There is no nothing they can do to stop the National Convention”.

For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Metuh has taken the pains to consult those that went to court and has been reliably informed that his name was listed in error and which they have promised to rectify accordingly.
