Injured Stokes hopes to taste the summer again

He missed two subsequent matches in that series victory, and the four one-day internationals and a Twenty20 that followed, before returning at Old Trafford.

“That sort of hurt me”.

Stokes walked off the field midway into his sixth over in the second innings of the Old Trafford Test against Pakistan due to a calf injury.

Hafeez has been representing Pakistan in all the three formats for a long time having played 49 Tests, 175 ODIs and 77 T20 Internationals for the Asian giants.

It was the nature of his dismissals during the defeat at Lord’s that Root said led to the blunt conversation with Ramprakash.

“But of course I thought about it and really homed in on practice and how I wanted to approach the rest of the series”.

Hales changed his technique mid-match in the second Test in an attempt to stop planting his feet and playing with his hands, but that did little to help him cope with Pakistan’s left-armers.

“It got me in the right place”.

“It’s actually exactly what I needed to hear and that’s why he is such a good batting coach”. I was just trying to turn that mental approach from one-day cricket to Test cricket.

“It is a bit weird really”. “It’s a massive compliment to be put in that category but I wouldn’t say I sit that comfortably”.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has said Stokes will be assessed next week.

Though Steven Finn and Jack ball were not on the 12-man squad at Old Trafford Test but they took place on 13 man squad at Edgbaston test. In a winning team, though, the 25-year-old has been given another chance.

“I think there is a few players in our squad who were on that last tour and would like to get back out there and put some really strong performances in”, he said.
