On Tuesday, 63 frightened Chihuahuas were pulled from a home in Larimer County, Colorado, reports The Coloradoan. There is no limit to how many dogs a resident can own in most parts of Larimer County, the Fort Collins newspaper reported. The owner also won’t face any charges after turning over the pups to Humane Society Animal Protection and Control officers. Fifty-three of the Chihuahuas will be spread out between Humane Society of Boulder Valley, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Denver Dumb Friends League, Denver Animal Shelter and Longmont Humane Society for adoption.
McManus said the mayor’s reasoning was there were more animals than needed to be there.
The humane society’s Facebook page says they have partnered with the shelter for more than 8 years, saving more than 5,000 dogs and cats from euthanization during this time.
“The pound is no longer the pound of the 1950’s”, McManus said.
“If they are under socialized – they do seem a little timid – we’ll be able to help them out with our staff and volunteers, working with them to build their confidence and trust in people”, Pressley said.
The dogs were generally in good health, but some showed signs of distress.
