With his quintessentially Clinton speech, Bill had forced a new reality on the Democratic Party, and particularly on supporters Bernie Sanders, just hours after they attempted one final, dramatic stand for their failed primary candidate.

Duffy, a delegate from Ruidoso, about 125 miles southeast of Albuquerque, cast his vote for Hillary Clinton, who became the first woman to win the presidential nomination of a major party. Clinton gave the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, telling the story of the pair’s courtship and eventual involvement in Arkansas politics.
As Clinton put it Tuesday, “If there are any little girls out there, who stayed up late to watch, let me just say, I may become the first woman president, but one of you is next”.
Clinton knew he needed to tell the country these stories because, as he said, they illustrate the “real” Hillary Clinton, not the “cartoon” character created last week at the Republican National Convention.
She says Hillary encouraged them to be part of the solution, building mutual respect between police and communities of color.
The former president’s tenth address to a Democratic convention was by far his most personal, a 42-minute tour through wedding proposals and Halloween parties, the deaths of parents and movie marathons.
And before Obama even said those fateful words, President George W. Bush did.
And he was backed by some of Mrs Clinton’s A-list supporters, including actress Meryl Streep and singer Alicia Keys.
Bill Clinton’s portrait of his wife as a dedicated champion of those overlooked by society was compelling. “It’s about what electing a woman President will mean for achieving the dreams and hopes and aspirations of every woman, every daughter, every son, and every family, all across our land, for generations to come”, she said.
More to the point, by the time I met her, she had already been involved in the law school’s legal services project, and she had been influenced by Marian Wright Edelman, she took a summer internship interviewing workers in migrant camps for Sen.
“The fundamental question that people are asking in this election is ‘Who’s looking out for me, who’s going to level the playing field for me, who’s got my back?'” said Mo Elleithee, an official on her 2008 campaign who is now a scholar at Georgetown University.

The Republicans last week struck me as something of a train wreck, divided, poorly organized and offering nearly nothing positive about their nominee, instead focusing on trashing Hillary Clinton and scaring the daylights out of people with a dark, nearly apocalyptic vision of America and the world. They are why I’m for small government. Rather, Bill Clinton focused almost exclusively on his wife’s achievements and how she’d influenced him. One friend, she recalled, said the job might be better suited for a man.
