White Sox activate Sale from suspension for start vs Cubs
The Cubs managed only four singles off James Shields and two relievers, wasting a solid pitching performance by Kyle Hendricks in a 3-0 loss to the rival White Sox on Tuesday night in Chicago’s crosstown rivalry.

At first telling the Cubs’ public-relations staff he wasn’t talking to the media and declining to speak to reporters at his locker, Chapman changed his mind after taking a shower. “Primarily, we have to not expand the strike zone”. “It’ll be nice to get off my feet a little bit”, he said. “They told him just to do his thing”. We have not done that.
He was better than that in his 10th major league start and 14th appearance.
LHP Clayton Richard was designated for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the Cubs’ roster for LHP Aroldis Chapman.
The incident provided plenty of fodder for heckling Cubs fans at Wrigley Field.
Going into play today, the Yankees are 52-49, and the White Sox are 50-51.
CARDINALS 3, METS 2: Jedd Gyorko homered again, hitting a two-run drive off Noah Syndergaard that sent St. Louis to a win in the first game of a doubleheader at NY. “I’m ready to talk about baseball and playing baseball and getting back to winning and getting the Chicago White Sox into the postseason”.
In 31.1 innings with NY, the lefty struck out 44 batters and was 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA and 20 saves. Chapman engaged more directly when discussing the toughest Cubs hitter to face or the key to throwing 105 miles per hour than he did addressing the serious topic of domestic violence. The Cubs PR department later emailed reporters a transcript of Chapman’s one-on-one interview with ESPN’s Pedro Gomez – after he flubbed the local session – that included more introspection than his first go-around.
In his debut with the Chicago Cubs, newly acquired closer Aroldis Chapman pitched a dominant 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning against the cross-town rival Chicago White Sox.
Katie Strang of ESPN.com passed along a statement from White Sox general manager Rick Hahn about the situation and subsequent suspension Sunday: “Chris has been suspended for violating team rules, for insubordination and for destroying team equipment”. Ranaudo is 5-4 with a 6.33 ERA in 13 career games (nine starts).
Matt Moore pitched four-hit ball into the seventh inning and Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer as the Tampa Bay Rays won at Dodger Stadium for the first time. Strasburg walked one and struck out seven. Abreu has reached base in 43 of his past 46 games. With a 6.5-game lead in the National League Central, the Cubs are hearing footsteps for the first time all season, but also simultaneously have their eyes on home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Jay Bruce homered in his career-high fifth straight game, connecting off Madison Bumgarner to break a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning. This season, he is on pace to hit 17.
“You can see that there is probably some frustration with the homers and the expectations he puts on himself”, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. People can use cultural communication issues as an excuse but I recall Starlin Castro, for example, a kid from a small town in the Dominican Republic, showing more awareness in April 2012 after learning sexual-assault charges wouldn’t be filed against him.
