Tim Kaine introduces himself during prime time DNC speech

Tim Kaine, the junior senator from Virginia and Mrs. Clinton’s running mate, told us that his son Tim, a Marine, was recently deployed to Europe. He had to be as a Democratic governor with a Republican-controlled legislature. “I never expected to be here”, he added. First, to make his first impression on wider public who isn’t aware of his background.

That line and several others appeared created to win over backers of Bernie Sanders still skeptical of the Democratic ticket.

“He says ‘believe me.’ Well, his creditors, his contractors, his laid-off employees, his ripped-off students did just that”, he continued.

Kaine, a US senator, is a former governor of Virginia. He just says, ‘believe me.’ So here’s the question. “Not one word.” Earlier in the day, Trump had confused Kaine with former New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean. And, in this vein, he cuts a strong contrasting figure to Republican nominee Donald Trump, who is highly unpopular with Latinos after promising to build a wall between the United States and Mexico. We are going to destroy ISIS so fast, believe me.

A little later in the speech, he took on Trump for not releasing his tax returns.

“Does anybody in this massive auditorium believe that Donald Trump’s been paying his fair share of taxes?” he asked, met with loud boos and people shouting, “No!” Of course he should.

“Hey Donald, what are you hiding”, he said. “As a bullish Larry Sabato, who runs the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, wrote in the Washington Post, “[With] Kaine on the ticket, Virginia can probably retire its swing state jersey for this year”.

Clinton’s choice of Kaine has drawn wide praise but grumbling from some progressive groups who wonder whether he will champion their causes.

Biden says in his speech at the Democratic convention that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is belittling USA allies while embracing “dictators like Vladimir Putin”.

The well-received speech, which CNN described as “the most consequential of his career”, also included a number of reportedly successful dad jokes.

“We should all feel the Bern”, the Virginia Senator said, directly addressing rumors that Bernie Sanders delegates planned to stage a walk-out during his primetime address.

Kaine also aimed to highlight his past as a civil rights attorney who worked to defend individuals involved in housing discrimination cases.

Vote for Hillary Clinton, he said, because she’s “a sane, competent person”, implying Mr. Trump is neither.

Kaine brought up his father-in-law, Linwood Holton, a former Republican governor of Virginia, in an attack on Trump. “Anne’s parents, Lin and Jinks, are here today, 90-plus and going strong”, Kaine said. But he’s voting for a lot of Democrats these days. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton chose Kaine of Virginia, as her running mate last week, opting for a partner at the November 8 election who has wide experience in public service to draw a contrast with Trump who has never been elected to office.

“I think a person’s character is a product of a lifetime and if you look at Tim’s lifetime, you see that as a young person he was called to serve and actually went to Honduras”, said O’Malley.

“I want to tell you why I trust Hillary Clinton”, Kaine said.
