Democrats in disarray on eve of convention

The decision follows an uproar over the almost 20,000 emails released by Wikileaks that revealed efforts were discussed by party staffers to seemingly undermine the candidacy of Sanders, the Vermont senator who was runner-up to Clinton in the Democratic presidential campaign.

Democratic leaders were booed at the opening of the party’s convention on Monday as anger boiled over following the revelation of emails showing Democratic National Committee officials trying to undermine Bernie Sanders’ candidacy.

Senator Schultz’s resignation as the Democratic National Committee Chair emphasized her support of the Clinton campaign, “I know that electing Hillary Clinton as our next president is critical for America’s future”.

But party disunity also seems to be a factor in Philadelphia, given Sanders’ demands for a new leader and general unhappiness among his many supporters about how the nomination process unfolded.

The latest developments dealt a major blow to the Democratic party which was keen on projecting stability in contrast to the volatility of Republican candidate Donald Trump, who was formally nominated last week, and overshadowed preparations in Philadelphia for Clinton’s coronation as the Democratic nominee to face Trump in the November 8 presidential election.

If you thought these leaks were juicy, just wait until Julian Assange releases “more Clinton leaks” to the public during the week of the Democratic National Convention, which will absolutely take the spotlight away from the convention and put it on the leaks.

“The Wikileaks emails indicate that Debbie Wasserman Schultz used DNC resources to assist her reelection campaign in violation of federal law”.

“To tell us to do that”, said Ryan Lopez, a California delegate, of Sanders’ request, “it goes against everything that we’re fighting for”.

The Vermont senator had said Ms Wasserman Schultz “should not be chair” of the Democratic National Committee.

Wasserman Schultz has announced she’ll resign her party post at the end of the convention.

“My first priority has always been serving the people of the 23rd district of Florida and I look forward to continuing to do that as their member of Congress for years to come,”Schultz said in a statement”. “I plan to formally open and close the convention, as well as address delegates, but will not make a lengthy address”, she said.

But Wasserman Schultz supporters argued that what was disrespectful was the treatment of the party chairwoman at the breakfast.

Her leadership of the DNC has been controversial since at least 2014, when some Democratic insiders said they had lost confidence in her ability to run the DNC. “There is no doubt that the DNC was on Secretary Clinton’s campaign from day one”, Sanders on Sunday told NBC.

Nathan Gonzales, who analyzes House races for the non-partisan Rothenberg and Gonzales Political Report, said Tuesday that Wasserman Schultz’s recent travails “raise the natural question” about whether she could lose her primary- or general-election race.

“Donald Trump may think America’s in decline, but he’s wrong”.

Brazil, who has lead in the position before in 2011, will be the new interim DNC chair.

Clinton will get a shot of independent credibility from former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who will denounce Trump and make his case for Clinton. Eleanor Sobel D-Hollywood. “I think that the Bernie people need to shift their focus to Trump”. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) were marching through Philadelphia, some of whom were calling for her resignation. Sanders’ supporters say they are concerned that Kaine is not progressive enough.
