Memorable lines from Wednesday night at the DNC

Day three of the Democratic National Convention symbolized the passing of the torch for the Democratic Party.
PHILADELPHIA – Democratic Party stalwarts circled the wagons around Hillary Clinton on Wednesday during the third night of the Democratic National Convention, leaving no question that the full brass was united behind the presidential nominee even as die-hard supporters of Bernie Sanders continued to protest inside and outside the convention hall. By that, he seemed to mean that the ultimate way that Americans could let themselves down would be if, at the polls, they chose Donald Trump’s dark vision of this nation and the world. He has no clue about what makes America Great. “That’s what Hillary Clinton understands – this fighter, this stateswoman, this mother and grandmother, this public servant, this patriot – that’s the America she’s fighting for”. Beau, who died of brain cancer, and told all Americans struggling through the grief of losing a family member he has been inspired by their poise and toughness. “Hope in the face of uncertainty”.
“When Trump chose to run for president, he probably said to himself, ‘I’m an egomaniac”.

It’s Philadelphia. The theme from Rocky blared as the Democratic vice president of the United States marched onto a stage in the state where he was born, just across the river from the state he represented in Congress for decades.
The audience immediately picked up on the phrase and started chanting “Not a clue!” How can there be pleasure in saying ‘you’re fired.’ He’s trying to tell us he cares about the middle class? After nearly eight years in office, they are reverting back to the same exhausted, empty sloganeering that helped launch them into power.
From left to right on the Democratic National Convention floor are Democratic District Leader Cory Provost, Assemblyman Walter Mosley, Democratic District Leader Anthony Jones and KCP intrepid reporter Henry Butler. But we’ve seen one downside for Trump this week, as Democrats rolled out a murder’s row of speakers with skill and cultural heft: a current president, former president, vice president and first lady each delivered powerful speeches.
You could see the President getting emotional during his speech, and the crowd was just as emotional including myself.
But still, the Virginia senator did what he set out to do. I don’t believe in science.
He also switched into Spanish from time to time, a reminder that he was picked in part to serve as emissary to critical Hispanic voters.
There was a bit of protest during Kaine’s address, with some delegates holding signs denouncing the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade deal that Kaine supported until recently.
He added: “While this nation has been tested by war and recession and all manner of challenges, I stand before you again tonight, after nearly two terms as your president, to tell you I am more optimistic about the future of America than ever before”. Copy may not be in its final form.
He then criticised the Republican convention, saying “there were no solutions discussed”.
“We can not elect a man who exploits our fear of ISIS and other terrorists, who has no plan whatsoever to make us safer”, he said. Most of the delegates obliged and Kaine was officially nominated.
Obama’s party is better positioned than ever before to appeal to minority and women voters who increasingly drive the outcome of US elections, an advantage Democrats put on display this week by highlighting black, Hispanic, female and LGBT Democrats at the convention.
