See Chelsea Clinton’s Poised Speech for Hillary at DNC

“But we are not afraid”, she said.

Clinton took the stage to roaring applause from flag-waving delegates on the final night of the Democratic convention, relishing her nomination as the first woman to lead a major USA political party.

Clinton is the first woman nominee of a major party. Her impassioned speech gave firm ideas for her presidential platform, her hopes for the next four years, and just aout anything else you could ask out of an acceptance speech. And the Clintons left no stone unturned to protect her, once complaining to “Saturday Night Live” about a bland reference to her looks as an adolescent.

– United States needs a leader who’ll work with allies to keep America safe. “Last week, Trump spoke for 70-odd minutes…and I mean odd”, Hillary said, as the convention burst into laughter – and that counts doubly for Bill Clinton.

“I’m sorry, I don’t talk to the press, and that applies to you, unfortunately”, Chelsea told the dejected fourth-grader. The louder they are, he said, the more obvious it is that there’s a part of the Democratic party that is not them. “Regardless of what happened in my life, she was always, always there for me”, she asserted.

She didn’t get very far before being interrupted by chants of “Hillary!”

Former Oklahoma Sen. Fred Harris said it was important for his party’s nominee to showcase the “original Hillary Clinton, before she became so guarded” when she takes the convention stage.

Clinton’s aides said she will not try to be a sunny counterpoint to Trump’s gloomier outlook. And so, rather than shunning her critics, she ventured instead into the role of unifier to articulate the threat Trump posed to the very public service to which she owed her presence onstage. “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons”, Clinton said.

It seemed at the start of the election year that the moment Democrats witnessed on Thursday night in Philadelphia might elude her. She only stands together with the donors and special interests who’ve bankrolled her entire life.

The speech reminded me of the video with which Hillary Clinton launched her campaign.

Chelsea Clinton has had a modest presence around Philadelphia this week, having given birth to her second child with husband Marc Mezvinsky just a month ago.

Obama’s party is better positioned than ever before to appeal to minority and women voters who increasingly drive the outcome of US elections, an advantage Democrats put on display this week by highlighting black, Hispanic, female and LGBT Democrats at the convention. Nights two and three featured many Democrats begging those Bernie fans to stop booing and vote for Hillary Clinton with speeches that focused on police violence, gun control, liberal immigration policy, abortion rights, and the dangers of free trade.

Democrats offered many pointed attacks of Trump during their convention, but the prevailing theme was a more-polite rebuke wrapped in a play on words: “Love trumps hate”.

“You’ve put economic and social issues front and centre where they belong, and to all of your supporters, here and around the country, I’ve heard you”.

She said Americans are willing to work, and work hard.

“And just as with our founders, there are no guarantees”. It’s truly is up to us.

Trump’s fiery message of unfairness and decline in America has resonated with white, working class voters in particular.

The former first lady, USA senator and secretary of state will step out of the shadows of presidents past and present on Thursday for her chance to persuade Americans that she is the best choice to helm a nation looking for a new era of leadership.

The Clinton team also used the week to reintroduce the former secretary of state to Americans, emphasizing causes such as her longtime work for children and families.

Inside the arena, it sounded at times more like a traditional Republican convention than a Democratic one. And they should set off alarm bells for all of us. “I haven’t heard a Republican explain why her policy positions are bad”.
