Under pressure after email leaks, Wasserman Schultz to quit as party head
Democrats are hoping to avoid the sort of overt signs of dissent that plagued the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last week.

Bowing to rapidly building pressure, Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee’s embattled chair, announced yesterday she was stepping down at the end of the convention.
The Democrats’ four-day convention starts on Monday, with speeches by First Lady Michelle Obama and Mr Sanders.
Wasserman Schultz had became toxic to supporters of Bernie Sanders, who accused her rigging the Democratic presidential nominating process in favor of Clinton.
Political newcomer Tim Canova, who is challenging Wasserman Schultz in the August 30 Democratic primary for her House of Representatives seat representing Florida’s 23rd Congressional District, said he would file the complaint against her with the U.S. Federal Election Commission.
He also said “party leadership must always remain impartial”, which he added was not the case in the 2016 Democratic primary race. Unlike some Sanders’ supporters, he says he’s OK with Clinton. Sanders “stupid” for endorsing Wasserman Schultz’s primary opponent.
He also called for Wasserman Schultz to step down from her post.
Wasserman Schultz will not preside over the convention based on a decision made by Democratic officials, CNN reported on Sunday.
There has been accusations of favoritism within the DNC for about a year with the calls for Wasserman Schultz’s resignation becoming louder in recent months.
“And I think these emails reiterate that reason why she should not be chair”, he told ABC’s This Week programme.
Fealk said he viewed the emergence of hacked DNC emails, which suggested favoritism of Clinton, as a revelation and evidence of the party’s disrespect for progressives.
“Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her here tonight”, he said.
Some emails show that DNC actively worked to undermine Sanders by planting stories, belittling his campaign and even questioning his faith.
Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, tried to shift blame for the email hack away from DNC officials and onto “Russian state actors” who, he said, may have breached DNC computers “for the goal of helping Donald Trump”, the Republican presidential nominee. “I look forward to serving as a surrogate for her campaign in Florida and across the country to ensure her victory”.

“We knew they were stacking the deck against Bernie from the get-go, but this type of stuff coming out is outrageous”, he said. Both Clinton and Kaine, he said, were career politicians “who have been a part of government most of their lives” – as opposed to Trump, whom Manafort had proudly labelled an “outsider” during a talk show appearance that morning.
