Beatrix Potter’s Tale of Peter Rabbit first edition copy sells for £43000
The book went up for auction today at Dreweatts and Bloomsbury on the what would have been Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday.

Six stamps will all be available from Thursday including scenes from her first book The Tale Of Peter Rabbit, as well as individual character stamps.
Depicted on the stamps are favourite characters, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Squirrel Nutkin, Tom Kitten, Benjamin Bunny, as well as Peter Rabbit.
The 150th anniversary has seen a “mini-musical” being performed at World of Beatrix Potter in the Lake Distrrict, he creation of a Girlguiding Beatrix Potter Anniversary Challenge badge, and commeroative 50 pence coins from the Royal Mint press.
The book, which features 41 full-page line drawings, was privately printed by Beatrix Potter in 1901 after several publishers turned her down, and is expected to fetch up to £35,000.
The Tale Of Peter Rabbit became a hit with friends and family, and a publisher made a decision to release the book.
Philip Parker of Royal Mail said: “Beatrix Potter created unforgettable characters which have been loved by successive generations”.
Potter started to sell her first drawings at the age of 23, creating Peter Rabbit in 1893, naming the character after her own pet.

Other highlights in the sale of Beatrix Potter memorabilia, which marks the 150th anniversary of the author’s birth, include an original watercolour design for The Story of Miss Moppet.
