Tim Kaine cheat sheet: Get to know Clinton’s VP
As he takes the stage Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine is firmly in Hillary Clinton’s camp – and his party’s – on the big health care issues. Kaine said, “Can I be honest with you about something?”

“Not Donald Trump”, Kaine said. For her part, Clinton referred to her new running mate as “everything Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not”, as well as “a progressive who likes to get things done”. Kaine mocked Trump throughout the speech, mimicking his mannerisms and ridiculing one of his favorite catch-phrases, “Believe me”.
Traditionally, vice presidential candidates are deployed as attack dogs, slamming their opponent to free the presidential candidate to rise above the political fray, and Kaine did spend much of his speech accepting his party’s nomination going after GOP rival Donald Trump.
In addition to all of that, he is “a truly genuine guy” who really cares about people, says longtime Democratic Party activist Mark DiSalvo, who got to know Kaine when he was chairman of the Democratic National Committee. “Or John McCain’s former economic advisor, who estimates Trump’s promises would cost America 3.5 million jobs….Or John Kasich, the Republican governor who had the honor of hosting the Republican Convention in Cleveland but wouldn’t even attend it because he thinks Trump is such a moral disaster”, Kaine said. “He will make Hillary a better president, just like my friend and brother Joe Biden has made me a better president”.
“Most of them had never met Tim Kaine”, DiSalvo said.
Later in the speech, Kaine declared that Clinton is “lista” for the presidential office, which translates to “ready” in Spanish. “Most people, when they run for president, they don’t just say, ‘Believe me, ‘” Kaine said.
“The next president is going to be the one celebrating 100 years of women getting the right to vote”, Kaine said. The Pacific Rim trade pact has been promoted by President Barack Obama as a way to increase USA influence in Asia and act as a counterweight to China.
In a packed arena, Kaine – iwith an “aw shucks” delivery – repeatedly defended Clinton’s character, offering a preview of one of the arguments he is expected to repeatedly make on the campaign trail throughout the general election: You can trust her. But news of Clinton’s freshly minted running mate didn’t outrage abortion rights groups.

The Christian Post has reached out to Dudley for further comment on when Kaine told Clinton he would support the call to ban the Hyde Amendment.
