In contrast to Trump, Obama lays out optimistic vision for US

“As I’ve traveled this country, through all 50 states; as I’ve rejoiced with you and mourned with you, what I’ve also seen, more than anything, is what is right with America”, Obama said. How can I not be? “We saw this nation come together like it has never come together before”, he said.

He went on to ridicule Trump’s habit of saying no more than “believe me” when offering vague details of how he’d build a wall on the Mexican border or destroy the Islamic State group “so fast”.

He talked about her experience, which includes serving as secretary of state during his first term, contrasting it with that of Republican nominee Donald Trump who has never held elected office.Obama said nothing truly prepares a person for being president.

When it comes to TV viewership, the four-day event here is apparently outdrawing last week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland, campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri said.

Obama painted an optimistic picture of the country that contrasted sharply with the “deeply pessimistic vision’ of America presented at last week’s GOP convention”. “There were no serious solutions to pressing problems – just the fanning of resentment, and blame, and anger, and hate”. “The America I know is decent and generous”.

White House aides who briefed reporters on the speech said the focus would be on Clinton, and specifically her tenure as the nation’s top diplomat and qualifications for commander in chief, according to the Associated Press. “I ask you to carry her the same way you carried me”, Mr Obama said. “She knows what’s at stake in the decisions our government makes … even in the middle of crisis, she listens to people, and keeps her cool, and treats everybody with respect”.

In her speech, Clinton spoke of love and kindness, her passion for policy and her upbringing that melded her into the kind of public servant she aspires to be.

“It’s not just a detail if it’s your kid, if it’s your family”, she said.

Clinton’s speech was the final address of the Democratic National Convention. Trump has said he was being sarcastic. She didn’t speak, but gave Obama a hug and linked arms with him as the two walked the stage. Delegates chanted “not a clue, not a clue” and jumped to their feet.

Is Bernie Sanders a Democrat or an independent? “He’s not really a plans guy”.

“I could really, really sense the pride and happiness”, she said. In this way, Obama argued that a vote for Clinton is a vote “to reject cynicism and reject fear and to summon what is best in us”, and it rang true.

And he seized on Trump’s strong message to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies suggesting he will insist they have fulfilled financial responsibilities before the US would come to their aid.

“This has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent”, said Clinton adviser Jake Sullivan.

With the exception of briefly coming out after President Obama’s speech on Wednesday night, Clinton has only made appearances on screen. “Trust me. I know”.

“That’s the Hillary I know”.
