Faced with steadily declining sales of phones running its proprietary BlackBerry operating system, the company a year ago came out with its first-ever Android smartphone, the $699 Priv.

The recently-announced BlackBerry DTEK50, however is a midrange, all-touchscreen smartphone that shares design and hardware specs with the Alcatel Idol 4, TheVerge reported.

It has data encryption by default, so everything is encrypted on the device. It tracks your apps and notifies you when someone is accessing your phone without your knowledge.
The BlackBerry Priv, which was an incredible phone, did not do well in profits due to its high price. The phone is priced at just under $300 and it is already available for preorder – four major European countries, the United States, and Canada – through BlackBerry’s official site.
We can expect an even steeper decline in BlackBerry’s smartphone sales in the current quarter, as is evident from its telecom partner AT&T (T) criticizing the PRIV’s “struggling” sales, according to a report from CNET.

The company said it would also offer the DTEK50 through security resellers and other distributors, in an attempt to target more business customers. In the U.S., DTEK50 will initially be available in Best Buy, B&H and Amazon. The gray smartphone innovator is hoping the DTEK50 will sell in greater numbers than the Priv, its first phone using the Android operating system.
