Bill Murray Overcomes Fear Of Ghosts, Will Appear In New “Ghostbusters”

As if anybody ever doubted it.

It would seem that most of the original gang will be back together for the upcoming reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise. Dan Aykroyd had already confirmed that he would appear in a small cameo in the new movie (this does not mean he will be taking on his original role, but will be at least saying some signature lines).

Like Aykroyd, it is unlikely Murray will reprise his original character of Dr Peter Venkman, since the storyline of the reboot requires that the public be unaware of the existence of ghosts.

Murray was spotted arriving in Boston, near where the reboot is being shot, according to Superhero Hype.

Bill Murray, who’s worked with Melissa McCarthy on indie darling St. Vincent, has been supportive of the film and the actresses involved, but not necessarily the film itself.

A third film was mooted but got stuck in developmental hell, with Murray himself being one of the big roadblocks.

Sidebar: this news has also reminded me of that god very bad Adam Sandler movie Little Nicky, in which Ozzy Osbourne appeared as himself and bit the head of a dude for some reason my brain has conveniently forgotten. His appearance not only gives the Feig film an imprimatur of Ghostbuster authenticity, but teams him with fellow Saturday Night Live vets past and present, including Wiig, McKinnon and Jones.
