“I was a big Obama guy back in ’08 and was part of the team trying to bring everybody together”, Kaine said, referring to when President Obama won the party’s nomination over Clinton. I said, ‘You’re insane! “I never expected to be here”, he added, addressing attendees in Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

“Hillary’s passion is kids and families”. “So I ran for city council”. My folks weren’t much into politics.

University of California, Berkeley political science professor Lisa García Bedolla said Kaine’s use of Spanish calls attention to his ability to connect on key issues that matter to Latinos.

Audience members shouted “Not one word!” and “No!” when asked if they believed Trump. I wonder. Donald Trump.

“I want to tell you why I trust Hillary Clinton”, he said. “I trust Hillary Clinton with our son’s life”.

Kaine punctuated his speech with compliments of Clinton.

Kaine addressed the crowd at the convention after a day full of speakers that included Jesse Jackson, Sigourney Weaver, Lee Daniels, Angela Bassett and Vice President Joe Biden.

Then, laying on the schtick, Kaine turned his attention to Trump.

“We must leave this convention energized, united and committed to winning in November”, California Rep. Maxine Waters said to loud applause several hours before Obama was schedule to appear.

He drew some scattered boos at the start of his speech, and a few pockets of delegates waved signs in opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact that Kaine has supported in the past. Bernie Sanders, who have sought to make themselves known repeatedly throughout the convention. He was well-liked, but known more for his electoral success than his legislative record.

“The next president will face many challenges”. “They respect you enough to tell you how they will get things done”. “And I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump”. Well, those on Twitter don’t think so.

Kaine emphasized the importance not just of speaking Spanish, but being able to listen to the Latino community.

The Virginia senator promoted his lengthy government experience in his first major, prime-time speech as the Democratic vice presidential candidate. Shortly after the speech, his approval rating as governor was near 80%. He had to be as a Democratic governor with a Republican-controlled legislature.
