Klopp questions paying £100m for a footballer

“But if you bring one player in for £100m ($131m) or whatever, and he gets injured, then it all goes through the chimney”.

Asked about the situation after the Liverpool game, Conte said: “Carlos was my player when I was coach at Juventus and we had a fantastic season. But building the group is not my unique idea, it is necessary to be successful in football”.

“It is very important because he can transfer his passion for this club to the other players”. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money.

“I think this year you’ll see Liverpool do well”, the former Wales forward told Reuters in an interview while playing at this week’s Farmfoods British Par-3 Golf Championship at Nailcote Hall near Coventry.

“If I spend money, it is because I am trying to build a team, a real team”.

The Italian said: “I want to continue in this way because this is the only way to come back very soon for the title, not to speak, but with actions”.

“This period in every year is one of a lot of expectations”. Everyone expects big names and a big improvement because of big names and if you don’t know the players it’s like ‘What are we doing?

Conte also backed captain John Terry, who signed a new one-year contract in May after it appeared he was destined to leave the club, to play a big part this season – although he suggested the 35-year-old may not play as regularly. “You only need one when you’re losing…that’s when you find out how good they are”, said Saunders.

“But this season he’ll have that team covering the ground, getting the ball back better than anybody else in the league because the fitness levels are going to be right up there”.

Klopp has added four players this summer transfer window; with more additions expected.

Liverpool have been no slouch themselves, signing six players thus far including a big money move for Sadio Mane from Southampton and Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists that he will walk out of football management if a time comes when only the club with the largest transfer bill wins all the trophies. Klopp did say Sunday though that the Reds are not done adding to the squad this summer.
