Allison Brown, who previously ran track for Southern Guilford Middle School, was nearing the end of a 3.1-mile course by the school’s athletic stadium when she collapsed.

The principal of Southern Guilford High School, Debbie Kraszeski, said she is deeply saddened but the community is strong.
Multiple media outlets reported her cause of death has not been released.
“They were coming right back in by the football field”, Kraszeski said. “It was a student that first turned around and saw her”.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on the second day of tryouts.
Brown was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Guilford County Schools officials said Brown, a 9th grader, collapsed just after completing a 3-mile run while trying out for the school’s cross country team.
A boy’s basketball coach at her former middle school described her to the station as having been one of the top players on the girls’ team.
“Any time anything happens with your students, it’s tough”, she said.
Kraszeski said Brown had an up-to-date physical, and school system officials say weather conditions did meet the state’s requirements for practicing.
Kraszeski says the news has been hard for the close-knit Southern Guilford community to handle. We are a community.

Even though school doesn’t start for another two weeks, grief counselors were at Southern Guilford High School on Friday.
