Trump pledges better times for U.S. in convention finale
It comes after a meteoric rise many commentators never believed would become reality when the property mogul joined the race a year ago.

“I humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States”, Trump told the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday.
He received big cheers as he declared, “We can not afford to be so politically correct anymore”.
“America is better than Donald Trump”, Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, said in a statement.
“Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it”.
He said: “O ur convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation”. The attacks on our police, and the terrorism in our cities, threaten our very way of life. “As long as we are led by politicians who will not put America first, then we can be assured that other nations will not treat America with respect – the respect that we deserve”. He did not resort to calling his opponent degrading nicknames, he did not reiterate his proposal of a total ban on Muslims into the country, and he did not echo the crowd’s chants of “lock her up” when talking about Clinton, but said “We’ll defeat her” instead.
Trump would “change labor laws” to ensure equal pay as well as pursue universal childcare, according to his daughter, Ivanka Trump, who introduced her father.
When asked by CNN why Trump’s campaign emphasizes fears of rising crime levels even though Federal Bureau of Investigation data shows a drop, Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, said the FBI’s statistics on crime should be viewed skeptically since the agency recommended that Clinton not be charged for her use of private email while she was secretary of state.
“This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction, terrorism and weakness”, the former star of The Apprentice added.
“Hillary Clinton is proposing mass amnesty, mass immigration, and mass lawlessness”.
As The Washington Post notes, Trump declared himself the one man who could steer America to “restore” its position in the world.
In his convention acceptance speech, Trump painted a dire portrait of a nation wracked by crime and people who have given up work.

Although Perry had been one of the first Republicans to blast Trump early in the primary season, he’s now a full-throated backer of Trump. Ted Cruz of Texas, pointedly refused to endorse the party’s nominee during his convention speech, inciting a chorus of boos and catcalls from pro-Trump delegates. He also disavowed America’s foreign policy posture under both Democrat and Republican presidents, criticizing “fifteen years of wars in the Middle East” and declaring that “Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo”.
