Was Trump’s appeal to Russia just a joke?

As journalist Aaron Rupar pointed out referencing Miller’s comments, “Not only did Trump not say that, but there’s actually a history of him calling for foreign hacking of computers used by the highest levels of the executive branch”.

Oh, and let’s not forget that right before he said this, Trump said Russian Federation probably wasn’t behind the hack in the first place. Instead, he said, Trump was “clearly saying” that if Russian Federation or anyone else already had Clinton’s deleted emails they should share them with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Trump also rejected the idea raised by Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, that his comments about the emails Thursday posed a national security concern.

At the convention, Leon Panetta, former CIA director and defense secretary, said Trump is “asking a USA adversary to engage in hacking or intelligence efforts against the United States of America to affect an election”. “That’s not law and order, that’s criminal intent”.

Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, came under investigation for her use of a personal email server while serving as secretary of state.

His remarks on Wednesday were regarding 30,000 emails Mrs Clinton did not hand over as part of an inquiry into a private email server.

It also said that comments by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about considering recognising Ukraine’s Crimea as part of Russian Federation would not change the Kremlin’s neutral stance on US presidential candidates.

“It’s just a total deflection, this whole thing with Russian Federation”, said Trump.

“I never met Putin”, he said during a press conference at his Miami-area hotel. You know, the same supporters who believe she herself wasn’t guilty of espionage or even mishandling classified information.

“Trump says global warming is a hoax”.

Shortly after the controversial remarks, Clinton’s campaign blasted Trump for encouraging Russian espionage against the USA, which is a straight up national security threat. “That’s why they do it”, Trump said. He was asked about how he would negotiate with Putin and said he had done so during preparations for the Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Moscow.

Donald Trump’s muddled stance on hacking has disturbed security experts at time when the tech industry is looking for clarity on the U.S.’s cyber policy.

During the lengthy press conference, he also told a female reporter to “be quiet” and called President Obama “the most ignorant president in our history”.

But the exhortation for a United States adversary to use cyber intrusions against an American political candidate drew criticism from intelligence experts and other public figures, including some Republicans.
