8 die as portion of building collapses in India
“Nine workers fell to their death from the 13th floor after the slab collapsed at around 11am”, National Disaster Response Force official Sachidanand Gawde told AFP.

9 people were killed and several seriously injured after an under construction building collapsed in Pune today.
Commissioner Kunal Kumar said the 13th floor of the “Park Xpress” project was “unauthorised” as the said building had permission to construct only 12 floors. “While eight of them died on the spot, one of the injured succumbed to his wounds in the hospital where the injured are being treated”. “We shall order an inspection of all such construction sites now to ascertain whether they are employing adequate safety measures for the workers”, Pune Mayor Prashant Jagtap said.

In related to deaths at the construction site, India needs tighter construction laws and heavy prosecution to stop such unnecessary deaths. Rescue operation are underway. It was the worst building collapse in the country in decades.
