Donald Trump declares himself “law and order candidate”

In his 75-minute speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland Thursday night, Trump – who has never held elected office – laid out the case against Clinton, and portrayed himself as an alternative to traditional politicians.

“I thought it was fabulous”, Washington state GOP chairman Susan Hutchison, who earlier called Ted Cruz a “traitor to the party” for not endorsing Trump, reportedly said.

Coats stinging rebuke follows Cruz’s prime-time convention speech last night.

“I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father”, Senator Cruz told a meeting of the Texas delegation in Cleveland.

During the speech, Trump spoke in general terms about job creation, stopping “uncontrolled immigration”, fair trade policies, repealing and replacing Obamacare, stopping domestic terrorism, appointing judges to the Supreme Court “who will uphold our laws and our Constitution”, taking care of veterans, and building the nation’s infrastructure. Schlapp also points out that the Trump’s convention ending address will be the “most important presentation he will make in his entire adult life”.

Trump was introduced on the stage by his daughter Ivanka Trump who said that her father is the “People’s nominee”.

“I think Senator Cruz is always looking for a plausible out”, Tillis said in an interview on The Tyler Cralle Show, “What he did was a mistake”.

“Not signing a pledge is dishonorable”, Trump bashed, saying it’s “not a nice thing to do”.

“Ah”, I said to myself, “they don’t realize it. Cruz has masterfully convinced them, with carefully phrased weasel words, that he is endorsing, even though he has not come even close to doing so”.

Pro-Cruz delegates standing around her speculated that the Trumps planned to see Cruz humiliated on the convention floor all along.

“I don’t know his father”.

Clinton also took issue with Trump’s assertion that he speaks for most Americans.

Chad Griffin, President of Human Rights Campaign, accused Trump of “attacking and maligning” the LGBT community and reminded followers of his many discriminatory views. If Republicans can’t rant about her ills in a room full of Republicans, I’m afraid we’re becoming a nation of pearl clutchers.

Later that same night, the vice presidential nominee, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence took the stage.

Ever the showman, he fed off the energy of the crowd, stepping back to soak in applause and joining the delegates as they chanted: “U-S-A”.

“I was actually a Kasich supporter at first and switched over because we have to band together to beat Hillary”.

Cruz’s stance could give him a platform to run again in 2020 as the one Republican not afraid to stand up to Trump. House Speaker Paul Ryan said in his convention speech: “What do you say that we unify this party at this crucial moment when unity is everything?“. By Thursday evening, the speech was available for anyone to read. “Only my father will say, I’ll fight for you”, Ivanka Trump said.
