Eight hikers are recovering after being rescued from the fire lines on the south side of a massive blaze burning near Big Sur.

About 2,000 structures surrounding the wildfire are in danger, according to authorities, and the fire has also damaged power lines and interrupted electrical service.
“Our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with Robert’s family, friends and firefighting community as they navigate through this hard time”, Cal Fire, the state’s firefighting agency, said in a statement.
The hikers were initially spotted by bulldozer crews assisting in the fight against the fire.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Monterey County has taken in 37 pets and is providing them with free shelter, food and supplies, shelter officials said on Facebook this morning.
Firefighters continue to battle the fire located on remote and rugged terrain with limited access as well as contend with hot and dry summer weather. Jerry Brown who is at the Democratic National Convention with other top state officials, declared a state of emergency for the fire and another wildfire outside of Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
“It is folly to predict where this fire will go”, California state parks spokesman Dennis Weber told the Associated Press.
The blaze could crest a ridge and make a run toward campgrounds, lodges and redwoods closer to the shore, officials said. The blaze is 10 percent contained, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
In Southern California, another wildfire broke out between the northern edge of Los Angeles and Santa Clarita that stretched up to 59 square miles, however, 25 percent of it has been contained. A lot of them are even unaware if their homes are still safe or not.
There are 3,516 firefighters on the ground working to extinguish the fire, but authorities don’t expect to reach full containment until August 31, according to Cal Fire. “It will provide assistance for those who had their homes and property damaged”.
The fire this week claimed the life of 35-year-old Robert Regan.
Although mandatory evacuations were in place, the Los Angeles County coroner said Bresnick did not want to evacuate, KABC-TV reported. He was discovered in a vehicle, burned beyond recognition. Reagan became the second person killed during wildfires burning in two parts of the state.
“It’s a heartbreaker. I could cry right now”, Tom Huntington said. “Leave! He just hung up the phone and started to do that, I think”. “We’ve never seen a fire come into Sand Canyon like that and neither have those residents”.
“One of the strongest men I’ve ever known died doing what he does”, Cunnings said in a Facebook post Thursday. And I know some people that have. There’s no way of knowing. I think the last time I looked it was about 100 yards from us. “I’m so lucky I didn’t lose my house”. The only thing. we pray harder.

The blaze destroyed sets at Sable Ranch in Santa Clarita, which has been used to film Old West-style Hollywood movies.
