“Through every victory and every setback, I’ve insisted that change is never easy, and never quick; that we wouldn’t meet all of our challenges in one term, or one presidency, or even in one lifetime”, Obama said.

“We are clear-eyed about what our country is up against”.

“He wants us to fear the future and fear each other, he wants to divide us from the rest of the world, and from each other”, Clinton added in a wide-ranging speech that was alternately progressive and hawkish – and quoted Broadway’s Hamilton.

Instead, the president says Republicans spent their time fanning “resentment, and blame, and anger, and hate”.

“To all of your supporters here and around the country: I want you to know, I’ve heard you. And I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump”.

Mr Obama suggested Mr Trump was a “home-grown demagogue” while Mrs Obama skewered the businessman for his “hateful language”. She also took aim at her Republican challenger, Donald Trump, whose campaign has made the case the USA is in decline.

Obama says, “that’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire”. That’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire.

“There has never been a man or woman – not me, not Bill – more qualified to serve as president of the United States of America”, Obama said.

Hillary Clinton said during her Democratic convention speech that voters shouldn’t trust Donald Trump because of his go-it-alone mentality.

Bernie Sanders shepherding the Democrats in his democratic socialist movement back to the fold, the socialists still unhappy to learn this really was the Democratic National Convention.

Speaking in Philadelphia, Clinton said her history of work on social justice issues – coupled with experience in government – gave her the tools to bring America into the future. “You’ve got to get in the arena with her, because democracy isn’t a spectator sport”. It’s about “yes we can”. “That’s why we are stronger together”.
