Three Nigerians executed by Indonesia

Four prisoners have been executed at Nusa Kambangan prison in Indonesia, while 10 have been spared the firing squad, in the first round of executions since two Australians were put to death a year ago.

The government had said earlier in the week that 14 people on death row, mostly foreigners, would be executed for drug crimes.

The convicts include a Pakistani, an Indian, a Senegalese, two Zimbabweans and six Nigerians, as well as four Indonesians, including a 42-year-old woman. For us, this is really a sad job because it involves people’s lives.

Reacting to the execution, the spokesperson for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said it was unfortunate the agency could not stop the process.

In a late night tweet Maryam said: “Despite bleak chance of success, PM NS [Nawaz Sharif] decided to make one more attempt to have Zulfiqar’s execution suspended & Alhamdolillah it happened”.

“Drug crimes are generally not considered to meet this threshold”.
