Mayweather returns to ring in September against Berto

Khan was teased about possible Mayweather fights last year that instead went to Argentina’s Marcos Maidana and Mayweather finally fought the long-awaited bout against Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao last May, winning by unanimous decision.

September 12, 2015 for number 49. He has indicated on numerous occasions that this is it, that he wants to leave boxing healthy and with his faculties intact.

Rafael further noted that boxing fans have mostly reacted negatively to the announcement. And that’s part of the reason why the unbeaten welterweight has rather shamelessly handpicked an uninspiring name who is 3-3 in his last six fights for his “retirement bout”.

The fight will be broadcasted by Showtime pay-per-view, according to Mayweather’s Instagram account, but a price has not been listed yet.

He added, “I always bring my A-game and this fight against Andre Berto is no exception”. “He has all the boxing skills as a young fighter but with a lot of experience under his belt”. (And by the way, we shouldn’t be too critical of Berto for merely being given the proverbial golden ticket.) That said, knowing Mayweather-Berto is now official somehow manages to sting. But he faces a stout challenge. “Book your hotel and flights now”, Mayweather tweeted Tuesday morning.

Despite the long shot odds, Berto is insisting that he will be ready. William Hill reported early action has been one-sided, in favor of Mayweather.

Mayweather v Berto will not be marketed on the pairing itself – because it’s a lacklustre mismatch. He had plenty of other suitors. So did Karim Mayfield.

The Mayweather vs. Berto undercard includes two fights which were projected.

“I’m coming to kick Floyd’s ass on September 12”.

In a statement Khan said: “I’m disappointed not to have got the fight for what is the third time after having been one of the front-runners”.

He also subsequently won the IBF Welterweight title with a knockout win over Jan Zaveck late in 2011, but promptly lost to both Robert Guerrero and Jesus Soto.

His most recent appearance came on March 13 in suburban Los Angeles, where he stopped Josesito Lopez in round six of a scheduled 12-rounder.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said a “very exciting” fourth fight is still in the works for the card. In addition to the fight being on PPV, Showtime will re-activate its “All Access” reality show to help promote the fight.

At least this pay-per-view is set to cost less than the $90-100 fans were forced to shell out for the Pacquiao fight (term used loosely). Well, they look exactly how you’d imagine them to look – Floyd is expected to walk away with the easy win.

Mayweather will defend his WBC and WBA welterweight titles against Berto. He was stopped in the 12th round of that fight, then underwent surgery afterward.
