Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius will be out for between eight and 10 weeks with a broken hand, Press Association Sport understands.

The goalkeeper, acquired from Mainz this summer in a 4.7 million pound ($6.2M) deal, will return to the United Kingdom where it is likely he will undergo surgery.

However, after suffering the injury during the 1-0 friendy defeat by Chelsea in Pasadena, when he collided with Dejan Lovren, Simon Mignolet looks to have been given a stay of execution at Anfield.

On a personal note it will be a sickener for Karius, who chose not to represent Germany at the Rio Olympics in order to be available for the opening two games for Liverpool. The 23-year-old had started each of Liverpool’s five pre-season friendlies and only conceded one goal – Gary Cahill’s header at the Rose Bowl.

Mignolet vowed to fight for his place after Karius joined last month, with other Reds goalkeepers Adam Bogdan, Ryan Fulton and Danny Ward all out on loan.

Moving on, although it’s yet to be confirmed by the club, a number of major media outlets are reporting that Grujic suffered a concussion and is set to miss their International Champions Cup clash with AC Milan.

The stopper is certain to miss Liverpool’s season opener against Arsenal when they travel to the Emirates on August 14th and he’ll also sit out further games against Burnley, Tottenham, Leicester, Chelsea and Hull.
