What to watch for in Hillary Clinton’s big speech

“She said that what anxious President Kennedy during that very unsafe time was that a war might be started – not by big men with self-control and restraint, but by little men – the ones moved by fear and pride”. The charge comes after Melania Trump was criticised for lifting significant portions of her address to the convention from Michelle’s first convention speech in 2008.

During her moving speech on the closing night of the Democratic National Convention she was showing signs that she’s the logical choice in this election and her supporters were an emotional mess taking it all in.

The speech capped a four-day nominating convention that opened in discord after a leak of hacked Democratic National Committee e-mails showed party officials favored Clinton over primary rival US Senator Bernie Sanders.

“Hillary Clinton. She’ll say anything, and change nothing”.

Already Trump has weighed in on last night’s big speech by President Obama, telling Fox News host Greta Van Susteren “I don’t think he said what’s going on with the country”. “Because when more than 90 per cent of the gains have gone to the top 1 per cent, that’s where the money is”, she said. “So this year, in this election, I’m asking you to join me, to reject cynicism and reject fear and to summon what is best in us; to elect Hillary Clinton as the next president of the United States and show the world we still believe in the promise of this great nation”, he said.

“Most of us who supported Bernie Sanders know enough about Hillary Clinton that we cannot support her”, says Fagan. There are the political ones, ie. “But we are not afraid”, she said. “It is the calling of her life”. Pop star and long-time Hillary supporter Katy Perry serenaded the crowd, and Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, gave a moving introduction of her mother. She’ll need to convince America to like her better than those Twitter haters seem to. Or at least, hate her less. Beyond the fact that she is a painfully poor public speaker, the content of her speech was, in my view, all wrong.

On the whole, they succeeded, with Bill Clinton and Barack and Michelle Obama and a succession of celebrities, veterans, party activists and even a couple of Republicans, offering testimonials for Hillary Clinton – and making the case against Trump.
