Matt Damon on Why He Returned to ‘Bourne’ Franchise

Matt Damon made the movie “Jason Bourne” in part because so many fans kept asking him when he was going to make another. The first half hour left will leave you breathless.

Pete Hammond, Deadline: A misguided 2012 attempt, The Bourne Legacy, with Jeremy Renner taking over, did nothing to continue that cinematic legacy, so there is much anticipation around the return of Damon and Greengrass with Jason Bourne.

Universal’s Jason Bourne, the fifth installment in the spy-thriller series, opened nationwide Friday and is now on track for a $57M opening weekend.

And, now, Damon is stepping back in (not sure where that leaves Agent Cross).

Greengrass sticks to the original Bourne framework with a big chase sequence followed by Bourne plotting his revenge, followed by another chase sequence followed by one more big chase climax this time with Bourne and his Central Intelligence Agency assassination nemesis facing-off on the strip in Las Vegas. But, their driving duel Las Vegas while impressive in the scope of its destruction, can seem too over the top, even for the vehicle guys who loves a good car-chase. Tommy Lee Jones is Robert Dewey the new Central Intelligence Agency director who will stop at nothing to keep Bourne from exposing the covert operation. The idea here is for us to find out more about Bourne’s past, as he does throughout the movie.
