German television network ProSieben MAXX has pulled its weekend coverage of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive esports league ELeague following the recent mass shooting in Munich, according to German CS: GO site 99Damage. This will mark a milestone in that it’ll be the first esports event presented live on Twitter.

The semifinals and championship match for the first season of Turner’s ELeague competitive video gaming series will stream live on Twitter, marking the first time the social media network will live-stream an eSports event. “We’re excited for our first ELEAGUE championship and look forward to offering these content experiences to our high-engaged fan base”.

The first semifinal game takes place July 29 at 5 p.m. ET and the second at 10 p.m. ET.

Increasingly recognized as a serious occupation and a promising sector, eSports has exploded into a multi-billion dollar industry that is rapidly growing in popularity and viewership.

Anthony Noto, Twitter’s Chief Financial Officer, says in the press release that the large number of eSports fans already on Twitter makes it a viable platform for developers to stream tournaments and gameplay.

Rolling commentary, memes, images and stats from the tournament will be tweeted throughout the semi-final on July 29, and the final on July 30.

Throughout its championship coverage, ELEAGUE will continue to feature a limited commercial break format across all three platforms, which will include advertising branding and content from official marketing partners Domino’s, Arby’s, Buffalo Wild Wings and Credit Karma.
