San Diego officer dead, another in surgery following shooting

“It happened extremely quickly, very quickly”, she said.

The Los Angeles Times says DeGuzman was the 10th American police officer shot in July 2016.

Officers broke windows, pounded on the roof and shouted for the man they thought was there to surrender but he wasn’t found there.

The standoff began hours after a traffic stop by anti-gang officers that led to a shootout.

The officer who died had a wife and two children, Zimmerman said.

“The good news is that he is going to survive and he is going to recover”, Zimmerman said.

Moments later, officers arrived to find one colleague fatally shot and the other critically wounded.

A suspect who was shot is in custody.

The condition of the officers is unknown.

Zimmerman later said they were still trying to determine whether it was a vehicle stop or a pedestrian stop.

A man suspected of opening fire on two San Diego police officers, killing one and severely wounding the other, has been arrested and charged with murder after a gunfight that left the accused gunman hospitalized, police said on Friday.

Support from local officials and other law enforcement agencies began pouring in early Friday.

He was the 33rd San Diego police officer killed in the line of duty since 1913.

“To have this happen to our police officers, we have seen this happen way too many times just in these last few weeks across our great country”.

The late-night shooting was in the Southcrest neighborhood, in the southeastern part of the city.
