Zac Efron could be slow-motion running onto the big screen in the “Baywatch” movie opposite Dwayne Johnson.

The film, which is likely to begin production in February 2016, centers around two lifeguards saving the beach from an evil oil tycoon. Screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the script’s most recent draft.

Airing from 1989 to 2001, first on NBC and then in syndication, “Baywatch” was a starring vehicle for David Hasselhoff, and propelled the careers of Pamela Anderson, Nicole Eggert, David Chokachi, Yasmine Bleeth and Jason Momoa, among others. He also wrapped filming on the road trip comedy Dirty Grandpa, opposite Robert De Niro. And at the end of August, Efron will reunite with Rogen and Rose Byrne for Neighbors 2, which shoots in Atlanta.

Zac Efron is on a bit of a roll of late, with Bad Neighbours giving the handsome leading man a new (comedic) lease on life, while 20 something DJ flick We Are Your Friends is due for release in the next couple of weeks. With the Fast & Furious movies and this summer’s San Andreas, Johnson is popular the world over.
