New Apple Store app said to launch with “For You” tab

There is now no way for users to get customized recommendations on the apps that they should download, as users instead have to browse through the apps by themselves and see if anything catches their interest. Bloomberg reports that the app could showcase these recommendations in a new For You tab, and that the new app will be universal; now, the Apple Store apps for the iPhone and iPad are two separate apps.

This feature is borrowed from Apple Music and Apple News app which contain a For You section. Right now, the Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad carry their own design languages with the iPad app focusing on interactive photo galleries.

The upcoming update is also expected to make the iPhone and iPad stores align, while a general redesign is also expected. If enabled on your mobile device, Apple’s iBeacon technology can serve up details on specific products that you may be eyeing in an Apple Store.

The sources wished to remain anonymous due to the information on the App Store update not yet being made public.

Apple did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment. This company is mainly appreciated for keeping the user data private.

The shift toward using recommendations would mark a change for Apple, where privacy concerns have traditionally usurped efforts to use customer-behaviour data to garner more revenue. The tabs of the same name are different in other Apple stores such as Apple Music, with the user selecting the genres and artists that power the For You tab of the music streaming service. As of now, Apple Store application let users access their purchase history for reference but never tap into the data in order to offer the future purchase suggestions.
