Victory wasn’t what anti-Trump forces were shooting for, but they also failed to win a quarter of the votes on the 112-member panel that would have allowed them to carry their battle to the convention floor on Monday.
The process for them to do so was to gain to the support of one quarter of the rules committee, but they fell far short of doing so.
The “free the delegates” push had been the last-ditch effort of Trump opponents who, organizing under the #NeverTrump hashtag on social media, tried approach after approach to topple Trump’s presidential campaign. Or is a delegate someone who is supposed to use some judgement in casting their vote at the convention?
