This represents the new land speed record for a street-legal electric auto.

The Genovation GXE is a re-engineered Z06 Corvette in which the company fitted a 44kWh battery pack allowing for a range of about 130 miles on a single charge.

Genovation, a startup based in Rockville, Maryland, has earned a new land speed record using a C6 Chevrolet Corvette converted to run on electric motors.

The GXE responded to the challenge, hitting a top speed of 330.9km/h (205.6), a record certified by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA), as the fastest speed achieved by a road legal EV. The car’s previous record of 186.8mph was set in the same location earlier this year. The GXE includes a state-of-the-art battery management system, inverters, batteries and electric motors that produce in excess of 600-hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. It also benefits from a near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution and low center of gravity.

However, as the GXE is not exactly a mass-market vehicle, but if a person wants to own and test the speed of the auto on the street, that person will need at least $300,000 to pick one up.

Current plans call for the Genovation GXE to finish testing and development sometime this year, and for limited edition preordering to begin during Quarter 3 2016.

The company, founded in 2007, designs and builds electric vehicles that are created to preserve what’s fun about the driving experience. This is an Audi TT-like sports vehicle that Genovation hopes to offer in electric and plug-in hybrid guises.
