Justin Bieber dethroned his pal Drake at the Official UK Charts with his powerhouse collab with Major Lazer and MØ – Cold Water.
While Drake didn’t beat the all time United Kingdom singles chart record, which was set by Bryan Adams in 1991 with ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You”, he did tie Wet Wet Wet, who spent 15 weeks at number one in 1994 with “Love Is All Around’.
Along with Adams’ hit, the song also joins Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around, and Frankie Lane’s I Believe to enter the top five longest-running umber one singles in United Kingdom chart history.
Rock star Adams, also born in Canada, logged 16 weeks at the top with (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, from the soundtrack to Kevin Costner film Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.
Cold Water, which is Major Lazer’s new collaboration with Justin Bieber and MO has notched up 102,000 combined sales including 5.56 million streams and 47,000 downloads.
Meanwhile, Jeff Lynne’s ELO have returned to the top of the United Kingdom album chart for the first time in 35 years.
Chainsmokers’ Don’t Let Me Down and Drake’s former number one round out the top five.
It’s the first United Kingdom number one single for Major Lazer and Bieber’s fourth. “I’m totally amazed. Thanks to everyone that made it possible”.
The band last topped the British countdown in 1981, when Lynne’s outfit was known as the Electric Light Orchestra.
Christine & The Queens’ Chaleur Humaine hits a new peak at number two, with Drake a place below with Views.
