“Bernie Sanders and I will work together to make college tuition-free for the middle class and debt-free for all”, Clinton said.

The Republican presidential nominee, who laid out his own vision for the United States last week at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, said Clinton’s “vision” for the world is “borderless” and “working people” will “have no power, no jobs, no safety”.

Hillary Clinton has accepted the Democratic US presidential nomination with “humility, determination and boundless confidence in America’s promise”.

She promised to “liberate millions of people who have student debt”, raise the minimum wage, improve healthcare and support domestic manufacturing.

Clinton closed her speech with mentions of the Founding Fathers and their “selfless passion to build something better for all who follow”. Regardless of internal party politics, her speech will undoubtedly reflect this inflection point in American history. “And this country, if they choose her, this country will not be in good shape”.

“He loses his cool at the slightest provocation”, she said.

Clinton’s main opponent in the general election is Republican Party nominee Donald Trump. “We will rise to the challenge, like we always do”, she said.

“A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons”, Clinton said as one of many swipes at Trump on Thursday – a tactic surely will be one of the main thrusts of her campaign going forward.

In her address, Clinton outlined “how we’re going to empower Americans to live better lives”.

“Trump says he wants to run the nation like he’s run his business”, he said. Thank you all. I can not wait to join you in Philadelphia. And she recognised the historic nature of the moment: “When there are no ceilings, the sky is the limit”.

She told the convention she had met many people who motivated her to fight for change, including sick children and survivors of 9/11.

At the convention on Wednesday, US Senator Tim Kaine, Clinton’s running mate, described billionaire Trump as “a one-man wrecking crew” who can not be trusted in the Oval Office.
