The Team USA Men’s Basketball team has been shaping up nicely in their early exhibitions and are the overwhelming favorites to win yet another Olympic Gold Medal in Rio.
Now the internationalisation of the sport has benefited the NBA and the worldwide game, according to Paulo Vilas Boas, the competition manager for basketball at Carioca Arena 1 at Rio 2016. Additionally, coach Mike Krzyzewski will be on the sidelines, advising the United States of America team during its games. He allowed himself to be scanned into the game, a first for him to be in any National Basketball Association 2K game.
Those not old enough to remember the Dream Team, it’s comprised of all-time greats like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Karl Malone and uh, Christian Laettner.
“The 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team, including Coach Mike Krzyzewski, is heading to NBA 2K17!”.

Coach K said he was excited for this feature because it gives fans a chance to connect with the legends of the game. They’ll also receive a USA Basketball MyPLAYER jersey to customize their custom player.
“We’re always looking to bring fans closer to basketball’s signature teams and players, which is why we’re collaborating with USA Basketball and Coach K for NBA 2K17”, said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K in a press release. Krzyzewski will also appear in the in-game tutorials.
National Basketball Association 2K17 will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 20.
The addition of more global teams opens the door for a way more expansive game and hopefully in future you can ball out in FIBA tournaments and have the same level of worldwide play as the FIFA football franchise offers. The special edition game will come with the Black Mamba’s virtual shoes, his throwback jersey, as well as a virtual Kobe hoodie with in-game currency and a poster.
