Barton identified his assailant as Benny Green, who he said he’s known for more than a decade and who was a co-host on Barton’s current events show, “In the Interest of the People“, until a few years ago.

Barton said he didn’t suffer any permanent injuries – “a lot of “licks in the head”, he said – and he hoped to go home Monday”.
Green’s former lawyer has offered his own theory to AL.com regarding Barton’s beat down.
Barton told FOX6 that he knows who his attacker is.
Barton said he doesn’t know why this happened. “If there is a tape, I will comment on it if I ever see it”.
Vestavia Police Department’s Lt. Brian Gilham said the two knew each other, and the suspect was waiting for the victim to arrive at his part-time job Saturday morning when he attacked.
Barton is now at UAB hospital. Green will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail, pending a $150,000 bond requirement.
The man was wearing a trench coat and a hood, and Barton said he repeatedly hit him in his face, legs and knees. And he opened the door and we started struggling. A hospital receptionist said Monday that he was still there but that details on his condition were being released only to his family.
Barton said he was able to kick the alleged attacker in the groin. “If I hadn’t kicked him twice in the balls I’d be dead”. “He fell on the ground”.

However, the Greens are now in the process of a divorce. Barton has been subpoenaed to testify in the divorce proceedings, as was his wife, Mary Barton. He said he and his wife have socialized with Green and his wife, and Barton has helped Green “with his books”.
